HEYDE, WERNER: Nazi SS medical doctor and head of the euthanasia project from 1939-1942. Under Heyde's direction, 100,000 German men, women and children, considered "worthless," were gassed to death by special doctors. He later escaped to Flensberg, gave himself up in 1959 and committed suicide before his trial.

A professor of neurology and psychiatry, between 1939-1942, Heyde implemented the "mercy killing of worthless life." Under his command, Nazi doctors in 30 secret euthanasia centers murdered 200,000 people.
